Where is the best place to live in New Mexico? Is there a smaller town with Old World flavor of Santa Fe?

I like Santa Fe as a city but the city is dependant on tourism. I also like a rural setting…land with a house near a really nice smaller town. Is there a smaller town in NM that is very much like Santa Fe?

Taos.
Do it. It’s gorgeous there.
Give Taos a try. Still very dependent on tourism but a smaller version of Santa Fe. It is growing with newer businesses on the outskirts but maintaining its pueblo and spanish heritage to some degree. And a very pretty area. I don’t know what land costs are there, but you can find acreage around it to some degree. Lots of artists in the area. You might want to check out northwestern NM as well and areas of southern CO.
