road trip santa fe and grand canyon. Need some cool places to stay (hotel) and eat?

santa fe
Peter P asked:

Going on a road trip with the wife from Denver to Vegas. Thinking about taking the scenic route and driving through Santa Fe and the Grand Canyon.

Do you know of some neat places to stay in Santa Fe and the Grand Canyon area?

If you want scenic you can do much better than that
Try this:
DEN >Walsenburg CO>Mexican Hat UT >Kayenta AZ -Visit Mesa Verde NP en route Spend the night at Gouldings in Monument Valley
Next day Kayenta to GCN -get in touch w/ xanterra for the lodging reservations -personal choice; The cabins at the Bright Angel Lodge - double check for amenities -like fireplaces
Or if you still want Santa Fe Try this routing
DEN .Santa Fe >Window Rock AZ>Tuba City AZ > GCN>LAS That routing will take you to the capital of the Navajo Nation at Window Rock then across the Navajo Rez and the Hopi mesa’s
Scenic Route home
LAS > Hurricane UT> Mount Carmel Junction UT >Escalante UT >Hanksville UT> Moab UT >DEN
That routin will take you thru 4 national parks
Zion ,Bryce, Capital Reef, Arches
Edit:
I just don’t get why ignorant people who don’t know anything give thumbs down to people who do .

I will comment on Santa Fe:
1. Restaurant: The absolute best Mexican food in the entire Southwest is at Rancho de Chimayo in Chimayo, NM. Chimayo is about a 40 minute drive from Santa Fe but SO worth the drive. You will never forget it and the ambiance is incredible. Be sure to get reservations.
2. Lodging: I would recommend The Inn at Loretto or La Posada de Santa Fe Resort. Both are excellent (fairly expensive but worth it).

Grand canyon:
Try to stay at the National Park Lodge - it is incredible! Or Best Western Grand Canyon Squire Inn

I’ll ring in on Santa Fe, as it’s one of the many places I call home. You didn’t specify your budget, so I’ll give you both high and low-end picks.

Dining: On the high end of things, the best restaurant in town is Geronimo, near the top of Canyon Road. Words like ’sublime’ don’t do it justice. You’ll also want to try Trattoria Nostrani, which has been voted one of the top 50 restaurants in the country. At the lower end, one of my all-time favorite restaurants at any price is Maria’s. It’s not in the most picturesque part of town, but it’s always full of locals, and with good reason: This is some of the best Mexican food you’ll ever have; and at their prices, you can afford to go as often as you want.

Hotels: On the high end, I’d recommend the Inn of the Anasazi. It’s right on the Plaza; and to my mind is the best hotel in town. Small and boutique-like, they get ALL the details right. If you’re on a budget, the Inn of the Governors gives you an excellent location (also right on the Plaza), but at a lower price. I’ve put guests at both hotels, and everyone’s been satisfied.

Enjoy your trip!
