Should my boyfriend and I go to Santa Fe or Taos NM for New Year’s?

We live in New York but will be spending Christmas with his family in Tucson, AZ. After Christmas, we want to take a little trip up to New Mexico together for New Year’s. Neither of us has ever been there. I know it’s the “off season” but we don’t mind that. Just looking for some suggestions as to which place would be more enjoyable on New Year’s Eve/Day. We’re also open to other destinations as long as they are all within driving distance from Tucson. Thank you!

Depends on what you want to do. If you want to ski you definitely want to go to Taos. Santa Fe is probably more of a party town for New Years and Taos will be a little more laid back. Santa Fe is much more expensive than Taos and will also be much more crowded. If you wind up going to Taos I would recommend staying at one of the ski lodges, even if you don’t ski. They are a lot more fun and you can always drive into town if you also want that action. If you go to SF I would recommend staying as close to the Plaza as you can. That way you can walk around to everything there on New Years eve.
Have fun! You really can’t go wrong in either place - they are both very cool!

Winter is not necessarily ‘off season’ in Santa Fe or Taos. Skiing is popular in both towns.
If I were you, I would check on lodging in both towns, they can fill up (especially Taos), and both towns are very expensive. I suggest you go to both towns, they are only about an hour and a half apart, and the drive to Taos is very scenic. You have to drive through Santa Fe to get to Taos anyway.
