i am building a “santa-fe” style home in oklahoma. How do i acquire the authentic “adobe” look exterior.

santa fe
sylvia m asked:

I have seen other “santa-fe” style homes. The exterior is either painted brick or cinder block. Neither of these materials look “authentic adobe”. Any Ideas?

Go to where they sell Quikrete* and ask about a product called Quikwall*. You may need to apply a surface bonding liquid first.

In Massachusetts, there is a company called “Brick Master”. They do excellent work by dyeing/working stucco. I know they have a website. You would do well to contact them for leads.
BTW: I have nothing to do with their company, but I’ve seen their work on a few job sites. They’re good.

It needs to be parged, pretty much like stucco. You need to find the “right” person in your area who has mastered the technique. Interview stucco contractors, show them pictures of an authentic Santa Fe home an ask if they have done similar finishes. Since it is not a common finish in your area, you may have to talk to several contractors.
